In Tom Nook's store in Animal Crossing, the player can choose to ask for and say passwords for items. This was meant as a way to share and send items if the player and their friend can't meet each other in person. Players can unlock shop upgrades or even new shops by fulfilling certain conditions. If the shop announces its upgrades, it closes the next day for construction, making the upgrade available the day after.
